One Chicago knows how to build up hype. There's a special synergy that comes into play when the franchise is gearing up for a return, and brings together all three shows in a promo. Getting a chance to see how Chicago Med, Chicago PD, and Chicago Fire work together is a reminder just how potent the franchise is as a whole. It's greater than the sum of its (already great) parts.

And in case anyone forgot, which we seriously doubt, the promo for the upcoming fall season is one hell of a reminder. NBC dropped the first promo for the 2024 fall season on social media, and while it doesn't give much away in terms of plot, it does give fans a good feel for the energy of the upcoming seasons.

NBC gives fans a first look at One Chicago's fall lineup

The promo cuts between characters from all three shows, as they spring into action and help people escape dangerous situations. We see Fire's Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) assess how to navigate a fire while PD's Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) makes a call on a seemingly dangerous manhunt.

We also get a chance to see Med's Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) welcome a patient to Gaffney Medical center and assure them everything will be alright. Every angle is covered efficiently and dramatically, which is the One Chicago special.

Big changes are in store for veteran characters

If we look a little deeper, though, the promo hints at what some of the franchise's main characters will have to contend with in the upcoming seasons. There's a huge emphasis placed on Kidd, and the fear she experiences while on the job.

This isn't something previous seasons of Chicago Fire have delved into, and given that she and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) discussed starting a family, we're curious if familial desire will start to make Kidd hesitant in the field.

The notion of fear is also teased with regards to Voight, who is coming off a very traumatic season finale. Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan has already confirmed that the character is going to be undergoing some changes in the near future, and this promo seems to drop a hint towards that as well. September can't get here fast enough.
