Move over Mark Harmon, there's a new Gibbs in town and boy he's a looker! As work begins on the newest addition to CBS's NCIS franchise, CBS has tapped Austin Stowell to play young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the new drama NCIS: Origins.

While NCIS has spawned many spinoffs over the years, this will be the first prequel series in the series' history with the plan being to turn back the clock to explore Gibbs' younger years. The series will be set in the early 90s set before the events of NCIS and will follow Gibbs at the beginning of his career. We're going to get to see a new side of Gibbs in the series and we absolutely love the casting of Stowell in the title role!

Stowell is no stranger to the world of TV, but this will be the first time we'll get to see him leading a series and it's about time he got the chance to step into the spotlight as the lead. He's been an amazing addition to many shows' ensembles including Hulu's limited series Catch-22 in which he was a standout playing opposite the likes of George Clooney and Hugh Laurie.

It's going to be exciting to get to see what Stowell can bring to the role of Gibbs, a character that is very near and dear to the hearts of NCIS fans who watched Mark Harmon play the character for 19 seasons.

He's absolutely got the acting chops needed to play such a complicated character as Gibbs. What's fun is that this is going to be a Gibbs unlike the one we saw on the flagship series. It'll be interesting to see what Stowell brings to the character to make him his own as we visit the chapter in Gibbs' life when he was working as a young agent at the NIS Camp Pendleton office.

And yes, we're not ashamed to admit that it also doesn't exactly hurt that Stowell is definitely easy on the eyes. We've seen The Hating Game and Catch-22, this is a man who can rock a suit or uniform and look good doing it.

NCIS: Origins will be coming during the 2024-2025 season and we can't wait to see Stowell join the NCIS family. In the meantime, you can learn a bit more about CBS's new Gibbs actor below!
