Fans are going to be reeling from the NCIS: Hawai'i for a while. The show was seemingly thriving as an alternative to the flagship procedural, with a unique cast and a setting that allowed for the exploration of different crimes. The show even picked up NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J along the way.

Unfortunately, these virtues did not keep CBS from pulling the plug. NCIS: Hawai'i was the first show in NCIS history be canceled after only three seasons, making it, in One Chicago terms, the Chicago Justice of the franchise. But we're not here to dwell on the negatives. Let's focus on the positives, like CBS releasing two new specials in conjunction with the canceled show.

CBS will release an NCIS: Hawai'i set on October 8

A Family Matter
“A Family Matter” – Following the cliffhanger Season 19 finale, with Parker (Gary Cole) still on the run with his ex-wife Vivian (Terri Polo), the team investigates who from his past might have a personal vendetta against him in hopes of clearing Parker’s name. Enlisting the help of NCIS: Hawai’i’s Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and Computer Specialist Ernie Malick (Jason Antoon), who are in town meeting with Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) in preparation for a global military /

All three seasons of NCIS: Hawai'i will be packaged and sold in a box set this October. In addition to every episode, the box set will feature two specials that will take fans behind the scenes of the final season.

One of them will focus on the direction of the show, and will be titled "Ruah’s Rules: Directing NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i" and the other, focusing on the changes made during season 3, will be titled "NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3: The Third Wave." Us Weekly confirmed these specials, along with a series long gag reel.

Vanessa Lachey is proud of NCIS: Hawai'i's legacy

It's a minor condolence prize in the grand scheme of things, but it's something! It'll be exciting to see what the cast and crew has to say about the show's legacy, and what made NCIS: Hawai'i such a fun addition to the overall franchise.

Vanessa Lachey, the star of the show, reflected on these topics after the final episode aired on CBS. "This show meant so much to me," she wrote on Instagram. "More every day I find, to lots of people. As an AAPI Woman, Wife, Mother, Colleague & Friend, I am more proud than ever to have been your Jane Tennant on TV."

Fingers crossed that NCIS: Hawai'i characters will make cameos on other spinoffs in the future!
