NCIS: Origins just cast three major roles (including Gibbs' father)

The prequel series added a lot of star power to its main cast.

NCIS: Origins is really starting to take shape. The prequel series was a thrilling proposition when it was first announced, but it was difficult to imagine a world in which Leroy Jethro Gibbs wasn't the most experienced person in the room. The recent casting of important roles within the show, however, has made this notion easier to accept.

According to Deadline, NCIS: Origins has cast three major roles. Caleb Martin Foote will play Special Special Agent Benjamin “Randy” Randolf. Randy is described by the outlet as the "golden boy" of the unit, who gets tasked with showing an unexperienced Gibbs how things work. It'll be daunting to play the guy who showed Gibbs how to get the job done, but Foote, who's best known for appearing in the TV adaptation of The Kids Are Alright, seems up to the task.

Daniel Bellomy has been cast to play Special Agent Granville “Granny” Dawson. The character is a probationary agent who's wet behind the ears but eager to prove that he has what it takes to flourish in the field. It sounds like "Granny" will have more in common with Gibbs than Randy, and show may even parallel their rise up through the ranks. Bellomy may be familiar to viewers as Zeke in the show Power Book II: Ghost.

The most intriguing casting choice is, undoubtedly, Robert Taylor as Gibbs' father. Taylor has a few iconic characters to his name, including Agent Jones in The Matrix (1999) and the titular sheriff in the A&E mystery series Longmire. He has the gravitas and the screen presence to play the father of a legendary character, and we couldn't be more pleased with this casting decision.

Not much has been described about Jackson Gibbs, thus far, outside of him being "hard-nosed." He's also one of the few characters who appeared in the original NCIS show. He was played by actor Ralph Waite between 2008-2013 (Waite died the following year).
