NCIS star teases crossover episode with Tony and Ziva spinoff
Timothy McGee is a crucial part of the NCIS franchise. He dates back to the show's origins, and given how many characters have come and gone over the last two decades, that's no small feat. The same goes for the actor who plays McGee, Sean Murray.
The actor has been promoting the current season of NCIS, which has already aired its tribute episode to the late, great David McCallum, and is gearing up for the landmark 1,000th episode. He talked to TV Insider about the landmark episode, but the topic that caught our attention was when he talked about the upcoming NCIS spinoff featuring Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo).
Sean Murray hinted at Tony and Ziva's return
We know a few details about the spinoff, like its tentative title of NCIS: Europe, and the fact that it will bring back Tony and Ziva after years of being away from the franchise, but something that was less clear was when the spinoff would take place, and whether it would overlap with the main show.
Well, Murray has set the record straight. The actor confirmed that the spinoff will be taking place at the same time at the current iteration of NCIS, and even went as far as to tease the possibility of a crossover between the two shows:
"It’s very possible, I’ll say that. Especially inside of our franchise, as I’m sure you could guess. And yeah, we like to have fun with some of that stuff, and it’s all in the family."
Murray might appear on the upcoming spinoff
Murray's response opens up lots of possibilities in terms of crossover potential. Not only could Tony and Ziva appear on NCIS, after nearly a decade of being gone, but veterans from NCIS could appear on the NCIS: Europe spinoff.
Granted, it would have to make sense, and involve characters who are familiar with Tony and Ziva's plight. What makes that such an enticing possibility, of course, is that Murray's character, McGee, is the most likely candidate in that regard.
He spent years working alongside Tony and Ziva, so it would be a no-brainer to bring them back together and delight fans with a reunion they probably never thought would happen. Murray told the outlet that he's looking forward to whatever crossovers lie in store, because at the end of the day, the NCIS cast is "family."
