9-1-1: Lone Star seemed like it was on its way out. The first responder drama had been hinting at a possible cancelation for months now, especially with comments and implications made by its cast. There was even a "save 9-1-1: Lone Star" petition started online.

The strange thing was that no such cancelation had been addressed by the cast or crew. Nobody had addressed the rumors in an official capacity, so there was plausible deniability for fans. Until now, that is. Rob Lowe was recently profiled by Variety, and he admitted that things don't look promising for the future of 9-1-1: Lone Star.

The actor claimed that the upcoming season of the show felt like "the end of an era." He admitted that most of the cast believed the show would be canceled following its release, and they treated the final batch of episodes like a curtain call.

"It feels like it’s probably the end of an era of a certain type," Lowe noted. "Well, it doesn’t feel like it. It is the end of an era of a certain type of show we once had an opportunity to make, and I think they’re great."

The outlet clarified that 9-1-1: Lone Star has yet to be officially canceled, but Lowe is not holding his breath. He seems to be as convinced that the show is ending as the internet is:

"We all went into it pretty much knowing that it was going to be the last season, so that affected everything we did."

Ultimately, Lowe and company wanted to put their best foot forward with regards to season 5. They wanted to give fans everything they could hope for in terms of the show's format, while proving that they deserve to stay on the air (even if they don't).

"We wanted to go out making our case for the value of shows like that," the actor concluded. "And I think we did a really good job." It's unfortunate that things seem to be headed the direction that they are, but fans will get at least one more season of 9-1-1: Lone Star to enjoy starting September 23.
