SWAT is not new tonight (but here's when season 7 returns)

There will be no new episode of SWAT airing this Friday night on CBS, but here's when you can expect season 7 to return!

“Forget Shorty” – SWAT teams up with the DEA, led by Mack Boyle (guest star Timothy Hutton), to conduct a massive gang sweep, only to discover that a vicious cartel is planting roots in the city and endangering numerous lives. Also, Hicks marks an important anniversary, on part one of the sixth season finale of S.W.A.T., Friday, May 12 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Since kicking off its final season on February 16, SWAT has been airing without interruption allowing fans to enjoy spending Friday nights with Hondo and the team every week. Sadly, for the first time this season, CBS will not be bringing us a new episode of season 7 with no new episode of SWAT coming our way tonight.

Unfortunately, the bad news doesn’t stop there either. Not only will there not be a new episode of SWAT airing tonight on CBS, but CBS will not even be airing a rerun for fans to enjoy in place of a new episode. This is because CBS will be turning over its primetime lineup to March Madness coverage which will be airing in the primetime hours and bump CBS’s entire Friday night lineup from the schedule including SWAT, Fire Country, and Blue Bloods.

SWAT finally returns in April

With March Madness in full swing, CBS will be bringing fans coverage of the annual tournament which is great for basketball fans but not so great for CBS fans. In making way for March Madness coverage, CBS has had to shake up its schedule by putting many hit shows on break for multiple weeks including SWAT.

Season 7 is hitting pause for the remainder of March with no new episodes coming fans' way on the final Fridays of the month, but fear not! SWAT will be coming back as soon as the calendar turns to April!

As confirmed by CBS, SWAT will return with new episodes beginning on Friday, April 5, with the seventh episode of the season! It’s going to be a bittersweet moment as episode 7’s arrival not only marks the end of the show’s hiatus but also the end of Kenny Johnson’s time on the series. That’s right, episode 7 will be Luca’s sendoff episode in what promises to be yet another emotional episode.

CBS has yet to drop the synopsis for the episode, but we're definitely a bit worried as the promo for the episode hints that Luca might not pull through after being shot multiple times in the chest. Will the SWAT writers really kill Luca off? Or will his brush with death perhaps be a driving force for him to walk away from SWAT? We'll find out when season 7 resumes on April 5! In the meantime, you can check out the promo for the next episode below and enjoy past episodes of SWAT on Paramount+!

Next. Sadly, Street is leaving SWAT. Sadly, Street is leaving SWAT. dark
