The Grey's Anatomy season 21 premiere sets to bring lawsuits and slats (Preview)
All eyes are on the return of Grey’s Anatomy. The season 21 premiere airs this Thursday, Sept. 26, and you will not want to miss out.
One thing to keep in mind is that the episode will premiere at a slightly later time than we’re used to. It’s moving to the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. While this is disappointing for Grey’s fans, it is arguably a better decision for the network and for the new medical drama Doctor Odyssey. We all know that last timeslot of the night isn’t great, but an established series is going to fare better in it.
The season will pick up off the back of the explosive season 20 finale. Sure, we know that the majority of the cast is coming back, but that doesn’t mean they will all have a home at Grey Sloan Memorial.
Pregnancies, firings, and slaps in the Grey’s Anatomy season 21 premiere
We have the synopsis and promo to give us an idea of what to expect in the first episode of the season. Some of the trailer highlights the way the previous season ended. Jo has found out she is, indeed, pregnant, and now she needs to find a way to tell Link. The two of them have been great together so far, but they know that this isn’t the right time to have a baby. Well, babies don’t work with our timings!
Then there’s Catherine’s decision when it comes to firing everyone. The end of the previous season saw Bailey put her own job on the line for all the interns, but it looks like Catherine thinks she’s better than everyone. That’s not stopping Bailey from slapping Catherine, something I think many of us would like to do! Oh, and it turns out that Debbie Allen is the one behind the slap actually happening. Without her, Bailey would have stopped just before slapping! What!
There has to be a way to take Catherine down, but that’s not going to happen in the first episode. There are too many storylines she has a hand in, with one of them being Meredith’s Alzheimer’s research. Catherine is willing to sue to get what she wants, but can Meredith back herself up?
Meanwhile, there is an emergency coming into the hospital. Accidents at a climate change protest will bring in some unusual cases.
Take a look at the promo and synopsis for the Grey’s Anatomy season 21 premiere:
"After firing some of Grey Sloan's best, Catherine continues to interfere with Meredith and Amelia's research; accidents at a climate change protest bring unique cases to the hospital; Bailey encounters a blast from the past."
Setting up some cast exits in Grey’s Anatomy
Something that we’re expecting to see are some cast exits. We know that Jake Borelli and Midori Francis are leaving the series at some point during this season, but the way their exits are going to happen isn't that clear.
It’s going to be disappointing to lose both of them, as they are interesting characters with a lot of room for development. Borelli’s Levi Schmitt realized that he wanted to follow a peds career, but he didn’t do well in recent exams that would allow him to do that. Meanwhile, Francis’s Mika had seen a lot of development in just learning to be a doctor and a friend, and there was far more of her background to explore.
We’re hoping to see the premiere start their character exits to make them true to the story.
