Which Chicago Med actor has appeared in the most episodes?

Chicago Med is coming up on a decade. The medical drama is winding down its ninth season on NBC, and its already been renewed for a tenth (along with the rest of the One Chicago franchise). That's a lot of episodes, and there have been lots of talented actors who have passed through the walls of Gaffney Medical Center along the way.

The title holder in terms of most Med appearances, however, has changed hands a few times over the years. There was a period in which it seemed as though Nick Gehlfuss, the man behind Will Halstead, would stand victorious, but he decided to leave at the end of season 8. His total episode count ended with 163 appearances, which, barring an unexpected return, will keep him out of the running from now on.

Some of the other challengers for the title of most Med appearances includes Brian Tee, who has 136 episodes under his belt, and Lorena Diaz, who managed to rack up 132 episodes during her tenure as Nurse Doris (we were surprised, as well). Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto ended neck-and-neck, with 122 and 121 appearances, respectively.

The current title holder, however, is undecided, as there are actually three actors tied for first place! The actors are S. Epatha Merkerson, Marlyne Barrett and Oliver Platt, who have appeared in all 173 episodes of Chicago Med to date.

These three have not missed a week since the show premiered, and the only real way for one of them to pull ahead is for the other two actors/actresses to leave the show. Otherwise, we're looking at a trio of iron horses!

3 actors are tied for most appearances

Merkerson recently talked about her long-standing friendship with Platt during a chat with Parade. She highlighted the fact that they've grown very comfortable with one another, and have embraced their role as the collective backbone of the show:

"That’s what we’ve seen over the past eight years, is a friendship. An old friendship.When you say something, it’s understood. I love this relationship of Charles and Goodwin."

We benefit from the longevity of all three performers, so we can't see wait to see what they get up to as season 9 winds down and season 10 gets underway!
