Will Voight officiate Burzek's wedding? Chicago PD star weighs in
Wedding bells are imminent on Chicago PD. Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) are engaged, and while a date hasn't been set for them to tie the knot, most viewers are anticipating it will happen at the end of season 11.
It's safe to assume that the rest of the IU team will be involved in some capacity, and Us Magazine asked Hank Voight himself, Jason Beghe, whether his character would ever consider officiating the wedding. His answer was very on-brand.
Jason Beghe thinks Voight could officiate the wedding
Beghe started off by saying that he wasn't sure whether Burgess and Ruzek would even want Voight to officiate the wedding, but upon further consideration, he felt like it might actually be a fun and unexpected way to work the very stoic character into a softer environment:
" If I look at that scene, imagine that scene, there’s so many fun things that could be done with that."
Voight has some competition in the officiating arena, as the actor who plays Kevin Atwater, LaRoyce Hawkins, has already thrown his hat in the ring. During a separate interview with TV Insider, the actor noted that he would love to play such a pivotal part in what's sure to be a season highlight.
It would show a different side of the character
Regardless, Beghe believes that Voight would officiate the Burzek wedding one of two ways:
"Voight could either be shy about it or hyper-professional and not quite know what the hell he’s doing there. Or he could be [so] shocked that he finds himself in tears."
Voight has been through a lot over the last few years, between the death of Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado), the departure of Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and the near-death of several others. His emotional side came out during the episode "Survival", and fans took note, as it was the first time in a while that got personally invested in a case. At least, outwardly.
Voight in officiater mode would give him an opportunity to express himself in a less grim setting, which, frankly, there haven't been many of during Chicago PD's current season. The jury is still out on whether it will happen, but either way, the wedding is going to be a must-see episode.
