The Rookie is almost here. The beloved police drama is slated to return to ABC on January 7, and to make matters even more exciting, there will be a new cast member. The Rookie also boasts a stellar ensemble, but TV Line has confirmed that Ivan Hernandez will be joining the mix in 2025.
The outlet confirmed that Hernandez will appear in the season 7 premiere, and numerous episodes throughout the season. His name is Graham, and The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley did provide some background on his character during a recent Q&A.
Ivan Hernandez will play Detective Graham
Hawley told the audience that Ivan Hernandez will be playing a new detective. A veteran within the LAPD, but someone who will be new to the station depicted in the show. Evidently, Hernandez's cop will be bump heads with established character Wesley (Shawn Ashmore).
"He plays a detective at our station who ends up becoming a personal obstacle for Wesley," Hawley asserted. "But in a fun way." It'll be exciting to see how the new character interacts with The Rookie ensemble. Especially given Hernandez's decorated career as a TV actor.
Ivan Hernandez has been a consistent small screen presence since 2008. The actor made his debut on the show Lipstick Jungle, and has gone on to have bit roles in some of the most beloved shows of the 21st century.
These shows include Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, The Following, Criminal Minds and NCIS. He also made a single appearance in the Dick Wolf-produced Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2015. His most recent TV role may be his most notable yet.
Nathan Fillion is excited for Rookie season 7
Hernandez had a multi-episode arc as Franklyn on the Sex and the City sequel, And Just Like That. He appeared in six episodes, and proved to be a consistent scene stealer amidst the talented ensemble cast.
It's been a while since fans have gotten new Rookie episodes, and series star Nathan Fillion is eager to get back to work. The actor took to Instagram shortly before the season 6 finale to assure fans that he is thankful for their continued support.
"It’s a good feeling to have work," Fillion wrote on Instagram. "It’s even better to be able to take pride in that work. If you are among those who are enjoying The Rookie, we owe you our thanks."
