Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) has always been a lone wolf. The character is focused on helping others, especially those who work under him in IU. Chicago PD has always made it clear that he considers his officers to be members of his family.

This has been Voight's M.O. for 11 seasons. Something has changed. Or rather, something is on the cusp of changing. Assistant District Attorney Nina Chapman (Sara Bues) confessed to having some romantic feelings for Voight. And truth be told, the lieutenant doesn't know how to feel.

To be fair to Voight, Chapman shared her feelings and then informed him that she would be out of town. He didn't have time to respond. We've been patiently waiting for her return, so we can delve into the feelings of both characters and gauge whether a romance is in the cards. Fortunately, we will not have to wait long for Chapman's return.

Nina Chapman will return in episode 1215

Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan recently talked about the Chapman and Voight situation during an interview with TV Fanatic. She informed the outlet that there is still plenty that needs to be said on both sides, and fans will not have to wait long to see the characters back together.

"We’re hanging in the balance," Sigan explained. "[Chapman is] coming back. She’s back in Episode 15." The showrunner also confirmed that the character will be a huge part of season 13's second half from both a personal and professional standpoint.

The showrunner also noted that Chapman will complicate the already strained dynamic that has developed between Voight and Chief Deputy Reid (Shawn Hatosy). "She plays an integral role in the second half of the season and a lot with Reid as well," Sigan assured fans. "She, Voight, and Reid sort of become this interesting triangle."

Reid has been playing a dangerous game, indirectly throwing his power around and forcing Voight to be his "friend" in the field. Voight clearly dislikes the new Deputy Chief, so it'll be interesting to see if Chapman's return amplifies his desire to cut loose of Reid. If he doesn't like being under Reid's thumb now, he definitely won't like being under his thumb in front of Chapman.

Don't worry, though. The burgeoning romance between Chapman and Voight will still be the central focus. Sigan informed the outlet that the subplot will pick back up as soon as Chapman is back in the picture. "We will pick that story right back up," she asserted. "See what the time apart has done, and get back into their relationship."
