As we get through the summer between seasons for our favorite network shows, we’re thinking about what we can expect for our favorite characters and what’s next for them in the upcoming 2025-2026 television season. For NCIS: Origins, we have a timeline of events thanks to the original NCIS series, so how could that knowledge clue us in on what to expect for someone like Mike Franks?

Mike Franks has been one of the characters fans love following since Kyle Schmid took on the role made famous by Muse Watson. Franks’s relationship with his girlfriend, Tish, gave us another look at Franks, and fans got to see who he was when he wasn’t at work. But after she left in the wake of her attacker being caught, we’re sure this will have an effect on Mike as his story plays out in season 2.

At the end of the season 1 finale, Franks also got an unexpected phone call from his brother, Mason. He was assumed to be deceased since we only saw him in a flashback episode about Mike’s time living on a farm before they went to Vietnam.

Mike Franks will likely have some development in his personal life in season 2 of NCIS: Origins

Franks had denied having a brother earlier, until he got several hang-up phone calls before hearing his brother’s voice. Mason wanted to discuss things that occurred in Vietnam. It seems clear that the two fell out of touch for unknown reasons, but now we might get to see more of their story.

It has been confirmed that Mike will have a story arc involving his brother in season 2, or at least some point in the future. The idea stemmed from a line in NCIS where the older Mike mentioned a brother, but otherwise, we knew nothing else about him.

Another plot point we might see down the line is what led to Mike leaving NIS. We know it happened around 1996 due to the events of the Khobar Towers bombing thanks to the season 3 finale episodes of NCIS when we first met Mike. So depending on how far along the show gets, this is also something that we might see play out.

Of course, since that is farther in the future, season 2 will likely focus on Mike’s relationship with Mason and how he moves forward in the wake of losing his greatest love.

While we look forward to seeing what awaits when NCIS: Origins returns, you can catch up on the entire first season on Paramount+.
