Chicago Fire really knows how to catch us off guard with a character death. We recently ran a piece on all the firefighters who have died over the years, and one trend that we noticed is that there hasn't been a major death in a while. Well, we may have spoken too soon.
The promo for the March 5 episode has been released, and it does not spell good news for 51. It's as vague as a promo about a major character's death could be, but all signs point to someone important going down for the count. And fans are understandably stressed.
Violet confirms a death in March 5 promo
The promo for "Too Close" opens with two absolutely haunting expressions. Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) steps into a hospital and appears to be on the verge of tears. Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) greets him with an even more distraught expression. Then, in a moment Chicago Fire fans are going to spend a week thinking about, she shakes her head.
Somebody is going to perish. And in case the scene made it too subtle, the text asks: "Who doesn't make it out alive?" The rest of the promo is spent teasing fans with which character could be the one in danger. We see Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) rush to push someone out of the way of a speeding car.
We also see Jack Damon (Michael Bradway), Severide's half-brother, carrying a body through a burning building. This one is interesting, because the character has been absent for most of the season. He was fired from Firehouse 51 at the start of the season, and appeared in "Bar Time" in essentially a cameo role. Could the show have been teeing him up for a tragic death?
Fans suspect Pascal's wife could be in danger

The one that fans on social media are positing is Pascal's estranged wife, Monica (KaDee Strickland). While it's been a while since fans have seen her, the same exact thing could have been said for Jack Damon before "Bar Time." Plus, Pascal looks pretty horrified walking into that hospital. We know he'd be torn up if he lost one of his firefighters, but a wife is definitely a possibility.
There are a few people we can confirm are not in danger. Severide and Kidd are golden, especially with their current adoption subplot. Lyla Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) has been floated as a possibility, given that she's important to both Violet and Pascal, but the actress playing her has already been confirmed to appear in future episodes.
We won't know until March 5 rolls around, but we are going to be doing the same exact thing as you, and that's rewatching the promo and trying to determine which Chicago Fire character we need to prepare to say goodbye to.
