Sharon Goodwin has sacrificed a lot to protect Daniel Charles after her close friend’s career was threatened by a medical crisis, hospital politics, and the ravenous ambition of Theo Rabari, whose medical records revealed him to be a misdiagnosed psychopath. After Theo's medical records were leaked, Goodwin came under fire with suspicions that she was the one who leaked the documents. This ultimately led to her willingly resigning from her position and deciding to approach medicine from a different angle.

After learning who leaked Theo’s hospital records, Goodwin protected Doris, realizing that it all came down to Miranda Lewis—who had been gunning for Sharon’s job throughout the season. By resigning, Goodwin would save Doris's job and was able to take a job at Gaffney as a nurse, which has allowed her to quietly gather intel on Miranda while acting as a charge nurse on the floor. A new fact arrives on her doorstep during episode 4 of season 12, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow,” and suddenly it seems Goodwin might have the upper hand on her rival after all.

Peter Kalmick, Head of the Legal Department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, has been quietly slipping Goodwin information and informs her early in the episode that it’s pretty clear that Miranda is the one trying to orchestrate a play to become the new CEO of the hospital. Goodwin knows she needs more information and asks him to seek it out. Unfortunately none is delivered by the end of Episode 4, and Goodwin is busy in episode 5 with a far-ranging case that sees her team up with Chicago PD vet Trudy Platt. But even the simple fact that she knows Miranda Lewis is making a play for the CEO position gives Goodwin a sudden upperhand.

Though we’re currently stuck in a holding pattern regarding Goodwin’s plans and machinations, it’s pretty clear that Miranda is a major threat to Gaffney. Thankfully, Goodwin now knows what Miranda's endgame seems to be, which will give her the upperhand since Miranda has no idea Goodwin has found out this information.

While we definitely don’t know exactly what’s going on at the moment, fans will surely be rewarded with the truth if they keep their eyes on Chicago Med as the season spools out—and we find out just how far Goodwin will have to go in order to get answers about Miranda's play for power and where she’ll have to go to regain her elite position at Chicago Gaffney Medical Center. If there is anyone who can outsmart Miranda and stop her play for power, it's Goodwin.
