If you’re tuning into the latest episode of Chicago Fire, you’re likely going to notice pretty early on that one key member of the cast is missing and does not appear in episode 14, “Bar Time.” We’re referring to Taylor Kinney’s Lieutenant Kelly Severide who sits out the episode which raised a lot of flags among fans but let us start by clearing up one major thing.
No, Taylor Kinney has not left the show and he should be back for episode 15. This is just a one-week break and not another extended leave of absence. So what exactly has kept him away 51 this episode?

As we learn pretty early on in the episode, there is a hotel protest unfolding in Chicago and the CFD has called upon the team at 51 for assistance managing the protests. This special assignment results in Squad being called upon to help cover the protests and is the reason Severide does not appear in the episode and is not on call at 51 this week, and he’s not alone.
Not only is Squad called upon by the CFD to assist with the hotel protests resulting in Severide and Squad’s absences in the episode, but the CFD also calls upon Chief Pascal for some assistance as well resulting in Dermot Mulroney not appearing in the episode as well.
Interestingly, we learn early in the episode from Cruz, that the protest broke up quickly so Severide sent everyone home to enjoy the night off.
Taylor Kinney will be back for Chicago Fire season 13 episode 14
While Severide does not appear in the Feb. 26 episode of Chicago Fire, the good news is that he will be back for episode 14 and it looks like the episode will be a big one for Severide and Kidd!
As the synopsis for episode 14 teases, Kidd and Severide will be eagerly awaiting big news. The synopsis keeps things very general, but it seems more than safe to assume the big news the pair is waiting on is connected to Kidd and Severide beginning the adoption process which they officially have started after making the decision to adopt.
We imagine the big news might be connected to the pair’s adoption application given they’ve just begun their journey though the show could always surprise us with the news instead of being connected to a potential placement for the pair. Honestly, we’re just excited to see Stellaride finally taking active steps to start their family and cannot wait to see what the upcoming episodes will bring for the pair as they look to adopt a child and begin a new chapter in their lives together as parents.
Whatever is next, we can't wait to join the pair on the ride and fans can rest at ease knowing Kinney will be back before they even know it!
