When it comes to crossover events, the One Chicago franchise has never held back and always delivers high-stakes action when the casts of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD come together. Judging by the promo for the 2026 crossover, that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon.
On March 4, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD will return from a three-week hiatus with the 2026 One Chicago crossover event. This year’s crossover will begin with the sudden disappearance of a passenger jet and transform into a bigger and deadlier mystery that will put countless lives in jeopardy. Among those countless lives that we need to be worried about are two particular Chicago Fire characters, who find themselves in a very dangerous situation in the first promo for the event.
There is a brief moment a few seconds into the One Chicago crossover promo in which we see an explosion at what appears to be Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. The cause of the explosion is unclear, but directly we see the explosive device go off there is a brief blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in which we see Herrmann and Kidd are both in close proximity to the explosion.
We see a burst of light as the pair, along with those around them, are sent flying back from the force of the explosion as we see a cloud of smoke engulf the room as the camera cuts away. The moment happens so quickly in the promo that many fans seem to have overlooked the danger Herrmann and Kidd appear to find themselves in, but it seems that there is definitely reason to be concerned.
Fans will recall that Trudy Platt was gravely injured during the 2025 “In the Trenches” crossover event, and she nearly died as a result of her injuries. In fact, technically speaking, Platt did die as her heart stopped multiple times while she was on the operating table. Thankfully, the doctors at Med were able to repair the damage and Platt pulled through.
However, there have also been instances in which main characters have not been as lucky and were killed off in a crossover event. Chicago PD fans will recall the heartbreaking death of Nadia, who was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by serial killer Gregory Yates, in a crossover event with Law & Order: SVU. Nadia’s death remains one of the most shocking deaths in the history of the franchise and proved that the writers are not afraid of making big moves for the sake of the story.
Given the threat that the city of Chicago faces, we’re on high alert and worried that there could be severe injuries or even a major death in the episode. Considering that we see Kidd and Herrmann both caught in the blast radius of the explosion that occurs in the promo, we’re certainly worried about the two long-time members of the Chicago Fire cast.
Truthfully, we would be shocked if anything happened to Kidd or Herrmann as the two characters are part of some major ongoing storylines. But we’ve thought the same thing about other characters who met untimely demises in the franchise, so there is truly no telling who could be in danger in the 2026 One Chicago crossover event.
We’ll find out soon enough, though, as the 2026 One Chicago crossover between Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD will air Wednesday, March 4, on NBC.
