2 Chicago PD characters who will return next episode (and one who's still gone)

The episode will expand upon crucial season 12 arcs.

Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) has been one of the sneaky MVPs of Chicago PD season 12. The character may not evoke the instant intrigue that a Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) or even a Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) does, but he has been front and center in some of the season's biggest stories.

He proved his capableness and coolness (well, mostly) under pressure during the One Chicago crossover, and advised Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) through some pretty murky waters on the recent episode "Street Jesus." Well, Ruzek is center stage once again in the episode "Marie," which will bring back two major players in his life.

What happened to Zoe on Chicago PD?

The first is Zoe (Annabelle Toomey), a little girl that Ruzek assisted in the eponymous season 12 episode. Ruzek is obviously a father himself, and his paternal instinct really kicked when it came time to aid Zoe. That said, the arc involving the little girl was not resolved. Zoe will return under less than stellar circumstances in "Marie."

Ruzek and the rest of the IU discover that Zoe has been kidnapped, and spend the duration of the episode trying to track her down. The promo makes it clear that the stakes have never been higher, and Ruzek in particular is carrying the weight of making sure that the little girl is recovered safely.

The other supporting character in the episode also has a personal connection to Ruzek. It's his dad, Bob (Jack Coleman). Bob Ruzek aka Disco Bob was initially introduced in Chicago PD season 2, and has bumped heads with his notably more upright son for the bulk of his time on the show.

Things changed when Bob resurfaced this season, though. The character revealed that he's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and while initially reluctant, he agrees to move in with Ruzek and Kim Burgess. Bob's arc is one of the most unexpected in the entire show, and the chemistry between Flueger and Coleman as actors has made it difficult not to get involved in their onscreen dynamic.

We're happy to see the Bob Ruzek arc get picked up so soon after it was introduced, but are a bit concerned as to what his presence suggests. We can only hope the character will get closer to his son over the course of the episode, or perhaps even provide some comfort amidst what's sure to be an emotionally taxing case. We hope he doesn't succumb to any more health problems.

"Marie" is obviously going to be a jam-packed episode between these two returning characters. One PD character who will not be returning, however, is Nina Chapman (Sara Bues). The assistant D.A. has been gone ever since she admitted to having feelings for Voight. It's been a while since we've gotten to see these prospective romantic partners together. And frankly, we're eager to see things go.

The good news is that Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan confirmed Chapman will be returning in the next episode, 1215. Not too long of a wait!
