Chicago Med season 3, episode 5 preview: What’s with Will?
How much trouble is Dr. Will Halstead facing in the Chicago Med midseason premiere? Look ahead with our Chicago Med season 3, episode 5 preview.
Tuesday’s Chicago Med midseason premiere will be a big episode for Dr. Will Halstead, but not quite the way fans might like!
Season 3, Episode 5 is called “Mountains and Molehills,” and puts Will (Nick Gehlfuss) into the spotlight, both as doctor and patient.
Chicago Med season 3 gets back to business without delay when Will and Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) take in their next patient, but things get dicey after they realize that they don’t have a clue what’s causing her symptoms.
Then it’s already been revealed that Will himself falls victim to the mystery illness, which makes the stakes even higher for Manstead!

“Mountains and Molehills” could be an interesting episode on a number of levels. Chicago Med has experience already in the “turning a main character into the patient” concept; we saw that with Natalie in the first season, and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) in the second season. So now it’s Will’s turn.
The plotline will undoubtedly be complicated by the fact that Will and Natalie are now dating; that’s an obvious thing to factor into the story, especially with season 3’s focus on Manstead anyway.
So just how angsty and complicated will this story get by the end of the episode?

There’s other stuff happening around the hospital in the midseason opener, as well. We’re getting more of Noah Sexton (recurring guest star Roland Buck III) after he has his first patient die, and he has to notify the family.
We already saw Noah’s would-be girlfriend Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) struggle with making death notifications in “Graveyard Shift” so how is this subplot going to be different? Could we see Noah going to Reese for advice on this particular topic? This could either be an interesting story, or more of Noah spinning his wheels.
Plus, Chicago Med has already made clear that Reese is not all right, so how will she continue to spin out of control on Tuesday? Will Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) make a move to help her, and if he does, could that be a source of renewed tension between them? Reese hasn’t seemed quite as receptive to Charles’ feedback this season, so we’ll have to see if either he or Noah is able to help her with her growing concerns.
There’s a lot about to go down at the hospital this week, so make sure that you don’t miss it!
