Chicago PD season 5, episode 11 takeaways: Confidential
Is Chicago PD bringing back Burzek? Has the show found its sense of humor again? Here are our Chicago PD season 5, episode 11 takeaways.
Wednesday’s episode of Chicago PD brought One Chicago fans a few big developments for our favorite police officers, and we have questions to go along with them.
Season 5, Episode 11 was called “Confidential” and saw Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) leading the charge to bust a dangerous pimp and murderer, only for her to lose her confidential informant when the pimp killed her. Still, Intelligence was able to get him and rescue most of the women he had taken, ensuring justice even if it came at a high price.
If you missed any of this Chicago PD episode or just want a refresher on the events that we’re discussing, you can catch up with our “Confidential” recap.

1) Is the show finding its sense of humor, or losing it?
Chicago PD is easily the darkest of the One Chicago shows, and “Confidential” was another example of that. The case of the week was definitely grim, with a bad guy you loved to hate and Burgess suffering yet another loss.
But leave it to Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) to also inject a little bit of humor, specifically when he talked about how Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) had a gift for cultivating new CI’s. It was an incredibly funny scene, and a welcome one because there wasn’t a lot of humor in this episode. And there hasn’t been as much in Chicago PD season 5 overall.
The show is never going to be that funny, because it’s gritty and dark and deals with some tough stuff, but as Chicago Fire has shown, some levity can go a long way. With everything going on in the unit this season, it feels like PD has lost some of that. Hopefully Atwater will get to use more of his deadpan humor in the future (though probably not next week).

2) Burzek is alive and well
Wow, that ending. Burzek fans had to love the conclusion to this episode, which featured Burgess and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) sharing a kiss before leaving Molly’s to presumably spend the night together.
Burzek lives, and that’s good news, between how Chicago PD season 4 teased us with it but never followed through, and how both characters could use someone right now. But we’re also thinking about whether or not it will last. Just because they’re sleeping together doesn’t mean that they’ll get back together necessarily (although they should). So will the show officially couple them back up, or is this just another tease? We’ll have to wait and see.
But hey, at least there’s hope!
3) Halstead is finally getting some help
“Confidential” gave us what we’ve been waiting for since season 4: Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) getting some help. Granted, it started because he was forced to, but still. Halstead needs to work his stuff out and now he is. The question is, will Chicago PD actually show us any of his therapy or just skip over it? It isn’t the action-packed stuff that fans expect from this series, but it would still be great entertainment if we actually get to sit with Jay and listen to what’s been going on in his head this season.
