Our One Chicago Moment of the Week for the week of January 9 is Chicago Fire pushing Sylvie Brett and Antonio Dawson apart a week after they reunited.

It’s time for us to choose our favorite moment from this One Chicago week, and this week it comes to us from Chicago Fire, where the show broke up Brettonio, again.

This definitely isn’t our favorite moment, but we’re choosing it because it was the moment that’s most worthy of discussion, that’s notable for how we’re trying to still figure it out.

Every Chicago Fire fan knew that when Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) hooked up in last week’s episode, it wasn’t going to be a “one-time thing.”

So in this week’s episode “The Whole Point of Being Roommates” we got to enjoy an episode full of Brettonio; heck, it even was the focus of the episode’s promo!

And then, poof, there it went, with Brett saying she didn’t want to get any serious feelings for the man she’d once loved. She wasn’t looking for anything like that, not anymore.

We’ve got mixed feelings on this. On one hand, it’s great that Brettonio got a second chance after the utterly confusing way in which Chicago Fire broke them up. And it was awesome to see them back together, when it’s clear that the two characters stil play so well off each other.

Plus, we can’t entirely get too mad, because Fire showrunner Derek Haas has openly said that this won’t be the last we see of these two characters together—it’s just the last for right now.

But seriously, was it the best idea to give the fans what many of them wanted, and then yank it back?

On the one hand, “The Whole Point of Being Roommates” gave us some great acting from both Jon Seda and Kara Killmer, and reminded us why these two were paired together in the first place, with all kinds of adorableness, impulsiveness and banter. So we have to be thankful for getting to enjoy that.

But we also have to question the merits of serving up something the fans have been waiting for and then pushing pause on it. It feels like giving someone a Christmas present, letting them open it, and then saying they can’t actually have it until New Year’s.

Or, to use a show-specific analogy, it feels like another tease akin to how we opened the season. The show made us think that Casey could’ve died, then it turned out it was his commendation ceremony. The show made us think that Brettonio were getting back together, then it turned out they’re not (yet).

So that’s what makes this our Moment of the Week. It’s worthy of being celebrated for the fact that fans got what we wanted, but it’s also worthy of being talked about to see if fans agree with the way the show is approaching this storyline the second time around.

Are you just happy that Antonio and Brett got back together at all? Or are you feeling a bit disappointed it didn’t actually stick and we’ll have to wait for yet another reunion? Let us know in the comments.
