January 22, 2014: The Chicago PD season 1 episode “Chin Check” airs.
In this early Chicago PD episode, Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) was struggling with the stress of officially joining Intelligence, compounded with guilt over the death of the suspect he shot, so much so that his counselor felt he was not prepared for active duty.
This led to some heated exchanges with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), who was having his own issues letting go of an old case, and Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) wouldn’t allow Ruzek to take over the desk of his late partner Julia Willhite.
January 23, 2013: The Chicago Fire season 1 episode “Professional Courtesy” reairs.
Five years ago, Chicago Fire offered up a rerun of the debut of Detective Hank Voight (guest star Jason Beghe). We may love Voight now, but there was little to love when he began a terrifying campaign of harassment against Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), in an attempt to pressure him against turning his son in for a tragic DUI accident.
January 24, 2017: The Chicago Fire season 5 episode “Who Lives and Who Dies” airs.
Last year at this time, our hearts were breaking for Casey and Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) after let Louie return to his biological family. Casey took it out on the whole station by overreacting to a rat in the firehouse, and Dawson lost her cool with the father of an unexpected teen mother. Then Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) stepped in to set them straight:
January 25, 2017: The Chicago PD season 4 episode “300,000 Likes” airs.
This episode of Chicago PD helped set up Chicago Justice as Assistant State’s Attorney Peter Stone (guest star Philip Winchester) asked for the help of Intelligence when the key witness in his rape-murder case was killed. While Stone offered Antonio a job with the State’s Attorney’s Office that he ultimately accepted, Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) took particular pleasure in nailing Oliver Tuxhorn.
Tuxhorn was played by Gus Halper, who would go on to star as one of the Menendez brothers in Dick Wolf‘s Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. You can read our interview with Gus here.
January 26: Chicago Med star Rachel DiPillo celebrates a birthday.
This week we’re saying happy birthday to Rachel DiPillo, who plays our favorite pathology match turned psychiatry resident Dr. Sarah Reese on Chicago Med. Hopefully she’ll have a happy birthday, because right now things aren’t too happy for Reese, as she’s returning from a two-week suspension after pepper spraying a threatening patient in the episode “Ties That Bind.”
January 26: Chicago Fire recurring guest star Edwin Hodge celebrates a birthday.
The same day is also the birthday of former Chicago Fire recurring cast member Edwin Hodge, who turned up in Chicago Fire season 2 and Chicago Fire season 3 as Rick Newhouse, another transfer into Firehouse 51. While Newhouse left for Florida in season 3 and hasn’t been seen since, Hodge is now a series regular on History’s Navy SEAL drama Six, which will return for its second season later this year.
January 26, 2016: The Chicago Fire season 4 episode “Not Everyone Makes It” and Chicago Med season 1 episode “Saints” air.
Last year this was another bad week for Herrmann, who wanted to see justice done after being stabbed, but was tormented after Freddie’s father reached out begging forgiveness for his truly remorseful son.
After much soul searching, Hermann realized that his asking for a harsh sentence was born from hurt and anger, and met with the judge to say that he had forgiven Freddie. And though Chili (Dora Madison) was on notice from Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) that the next screw-up would be her last, this episode also saw her still at the bottom of a bottle.
Over on Chicago Med, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) had to decide if she would allow a bone marrow transplant that had been vetoed by the hospital’s board, while Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) discovered that his uninsured patient had intentionally caused a serious car accident so that he would be arrested and could receive treatment for his previously diagnosed lung cancer in prison. Crime and punishment was apparently the theme going in One Chicago this week.

January 26, 2017: The Chicago Med season 2 premiere episode “Soul Care” airs.
On this same night a year later, the second season of Chicago Med kicked off with Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) starting his cardiothoracic fellowship with his even more challenging new boss, the awesomely unique Dr. Isidore Latham (recurring guest star Ato Essandoh).
Meanwhile, Dr. Reese quit her barista job and started her psych residency, and most importantly we officially saw Jeff Clarke (recurring guest star Jeff Hephner) join the Med team – not to mention immediately couple up with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) for a short-lived romance.
January 27, 2015: The Chicago Fire season 3 episode “Apologies Are Dangerous” reairs.
Three years ago, One Chicago fans got to revisit Dawson’s first day as a firefighter candidate, in which Casey tried to find a balance between the personal and professional now that they were more directly working together.
Severide also had yet another bad night after too much drinking, this time involving a shooting on the train he was taking home. Severide jumped in to help a gunshot victim, and wound up with the weapon aimed at him until he was bailed out by the police. We wish we could say the experience made him re-evaluate his drinking, but it didn’t really. At least it was entertaining for us.
