Chicago Med’s Yaya DaCosta stars in the new Lifetime movie Faith Under Fire: The Antoinette Tuff Story, and here’s what you need to know about the film.

Chicago Med fans looking for something to watch this weekend can catch Yaya DaCosta in the new Lifetime movie Faith Under Fire: The Antoinette Tuff Story.

As the title indicates, the film tells the story of Georgia elementary school bookkeeper Antoinette Tuff, who was hailed as a hero when she convinced a would-be school shooter to surrender.

Toni Braxton, the seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer and actress, stars in the title role and also executive produces the movie based on Tuff’s memoir.

Yaya DaCosta co-stars in the role of Kendra McCray, the 911 operator who assisted Antoinette Tuff through the crisis. DaCosta, of course, previously appeared on Lifetime in the movie Whitney, starring as Whitney Houston.

But her new role is both different and similar to her part as nurse April Sexton on Chicago Med.

Obviously, playing a 911 dispatcher is a totally separate line of work from being a nurse in the Emergency Department, but both roles require someone with a calm disposition and nerves that can handle high-pressure situations.

Based on what we’ve seen her do on Chicago Med, Yaya DaCosta is a perfect choice to play Kendra, because we could easily believe in her talking someone through a crisis situation, just like she’s there to comfort patients in the ED.

So if you want to see her in a project that is different from what she does every Tuesday, but also allows her to do some of the same things we love her for, check out this new TV-movie over the weekend.

In addition to Yaya DaCosta and Toni Braxton, the movie also includes Trevor Morgan (who appeared in the 2007 Law & Order: Criminal Intent episode “Untethered”) as the shooter and Malik Yoba (Designated Survivor) as police sergeant Franklin.
