1) We need a moratorium on cliffhangers
Look, we get that Chicago Fire wanted to leave the One Chicago fans wanting more until the Olympics are over. But another cliffhanger?
We had two cliffhangers to end last season/start this one, three if you count not knowing what was going to happen with Erin Lindsay on Chicago PD. Fire also had a cliffhanger in its midseason finale with “Down Is Better” and now it’s got another one here? It really does feel like every time the show needs a break, it has to do a cliffhanger.
The problem is that the device has lost its touch. For one it’s no longer a surprise, and for two with all the previous cliffhangers not having actually done anything, it’s hard to get worked up about this one. Why should it be any different than the other two?
Not to mention that if you watched the promo that Chicago Fire ran over this episode’s credits, it gave away one-half of the cliffhanger anyway. There are other ways to generate suspense than a cliffhanger and it’d be good to start trying some of them.

2) Will Casey and Severide always be played off each other?
“Law of the Jungle” saw Chief Grissom (Gary Cole) trying to get Severide to sell out Casey, then try to do it himself when Severide refused to speak up against his captain. While the fact that they are often at odds is what makes the Casey-Severide relationship work, we’re starting to wonder if the outside forces are going to keep trying to use that difference against them.
Grissom was manipulative for sure, but he’s not the first person who’s come between our heroes, or tried to get one of them to turn on the other one. Maybe that’s just a hazard of them not being on the same page; it creates a difference people think they can exploit. But did anybody ever think Severide would really betray Casey?
3) Was anyone else hoping for Antonio?
The ‘C’ story in this episode was that Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) got to go to a spa, but she didn’t go with who she was expecting. It would’ve been a real surprise if Chicago Fire used this moment to bring in Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), but then again since he was sleeping with another woman this week, it would’ve felt weird to see him then promptly decide to rekindle things with Brett. It won’t stop us from wishful thinking, though.
The only good thing to come out of this whole plot was Mouch (Christian Stolte) in a bathrobe, and one sight gag doesn’t make a whole subplot. Maybe we should’ve given more screen time to Herrmann’s daughter!
