One year ago, Chicago Med brought a loaded gun into the ED in Chicago Med season 2, episode 12. Look back at the episode in our February Flashback.

With Chicago Med taking most of February off for the Winter Olympics, we’re rolling back the clock and revisiting the Chicago Med episodes that previously aired this month.

One year ago today Chicago Med premiered “Mirror Mirror”, the second season episode that had a very unusual—and lethal—challenge come into the Emergency Department.

It also gave a deserved spotlight to Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and fan favorite Jeff Clarke (recurring guest star Jeff Hephner).

Even while we were all cringing and wondering, How does a gun get in there?!

More from One Chicago Center

“Mirror Mirror” put Choi and Clarke to the test when they discovered that their patient’s problem was not any kind of medical condition, but that he’d decided to swallow a loaded gun.

The SWAT team was called as Clarke and Choi—the two members of Chicago Med’s staff with military experience—had to try and help the patient without getting shot.

And as if that wasn’t enough, there was a ton of red tape waiting for them on the other side about how the gun got there and what it may have been used for before it ended up inside a human being.

The ‘A’ story in Chicago Med season 2, episode 12 was great not only because it had a few really tense moments, but because it centered on Jeff Clarke and Ethan Choi, meaning that we got more scenes for two of the show’s more underrated actors, Jeff Hephner and Brian Tee.

It also helped to develop the Choi-Clarke partnership that wound up being a really great dynamic that the show never explored enough before it shipped Clarke off to Hawaii.

“Mirror Mirror” is also important for another, more poignant reason. This is the episode where Dr. Isidore Latham (recurring guest star Ato Essandoh) told Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) about his autism.

That scene alone made the episode worth watching, but it was such a page-turner, too. When we first met Dr. Latham in the season premiere, nobody would have expected that he’d end up leaning on Connor for help.

And Connor’s reaction, reminding Latham that they’re a team and that they can count on each other, was such a genuinely sweet moment. This was the episode where we saw how far these two had come, and how far they could go together.

Between that budding bromance and the one we could see with Clarke and Dr. Choi, this was an episode for double acts, and still one that is a highlight of Chicago Med season 2. Check out our full breakdown of “Mirror Mirror” here.
