February flashback: Chicago Fire season 4, episode 14
By Deb Foster
Two years ago, Chicago Fire punched Casey into politics with Chicago Fire season 4, episode 14. Look back on the episode in our February Flashback.
With Chicago Fire taking most of February off for the Winter Olympics, we’re rolling back the clock and revisiting the Chicago Fire episodes that previously aired this month.
Two years ago today, Chicago Fire season 4, episode 14 offered us an episode with both endings and beginnings: the end of the story for Jessica “Chili” Chilton (Dora Madison) and the beginning of a new story arc for Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer).
Just as it appeared that Chili was finally truly motivated to get her drinking and behavior under control after her intervention in the previous episode, we saw Chili go off the rails again in this one.
She received a package of her deceased sister’s possessions in the mail, sending her into an immediate tailspin.

Chili began drinking and her behavior became erratic, sullen, and angry – drawing suspicion from a vigilant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), who recognized the red flags from his own experience. When he eventually caught her drinking on the job, the game was over.
Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) reassured Chili that she would always have support from Firehouse 51, just not as a paramedic. Chili was fired and stormed out of the firehouse, but later calmed down and sought out Severide.
Kelly brought her to get treatment, and that wound up being the last we’d see of Chili on Chicago Fire.

Elsewhere, this episode was where Casey’s political career (which would become a huge part of this season and the next) truly came into being. Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) was seriously pushing Casey to run for City Alderman, hoping it could help the fire department out.
Casey treated the idea of working in politics as a joke, but leave it to Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) to change his mind. Dawson started to believe that Casey really was the man for the job, who could make a real difference in the community. Plus, the six-figure salary was probably a nice perk, too!
So in a highly effective bribe, Dawson presented Matt with both an early Valentine’s Day present in the form of some sexy lingerie, and the application to run for Alderman. Casey was convinced, though whether by her words or the lingerie (or both), we’ll let you decide.
The last story in “All Hard Parts” was on the lighter side, especially for Christopher Herrmann’s (David Eigenberg) wallet. We finally had the Battle of the Badges that we’d been waiting for.
That brought us not only the highly anticipated boxing match between Jimmy Borelli (Steven R. McQueen) and Chicago PD‘s Antonio Dawson (guest star Jon Seda), but also the completely unexpected and awesome surprise of Connie (DuShon Monique Brown) as “ring girl.”
Herrmann had bet big money on Jimmy making it to the second round against former Golden Gloves champion Antonio; all Jimmy had to do was keep his cool and stay on his feet. But after landing one surprise punch on Antonio, Borelli got cocky. Antonio got mad and boom, it was over!
Antonio won by TKO and Borelli never knew what hit him, literally. Herrmann had to pay up, but him getting a little comeuppance plus Connie in the ring made the plot—and this episode—worth the watch.
