Did Chicago PD just set up a big showdown between Hank Voight and Denny Woods? Here are our Chicago PD season 5, episode 14 takeaways.

The last episode of Chicago PD season 5 before the Olympics ended in a shootout, so what does that mean for the rest of the season?

Season 5, Episode 14 was called “Anthem” and involved Intelligence looking into the murder of a college basketball star. At first, they thought it was related to his protest of the National Anthem, but they uncovered something much darker that ended with the daughter of Denny Woods (guest star Mykelti Williamson) being shot.

If you missed any of this Chicago PD episode or just want a refresher on the events that we’re discussing, you can catch up with our “Anthem” recap.

More from One Chicago Center

1) Denny Woods is a lost cause

After last night’s Chicago PD, we’ve lost all hope that Denny Woods can be reasoned with.

“Anthem” gave us a glimmer of hope that Woods, who’s waged a one-man assault on Intelligence all throughout Chicago PD season 5, might be seeing the light. We saw a vulnerable man, who was trying to do the best for his daughter, and so surely he and Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) could get on the same page as fathers who’d both been affected by crime, right?

Nope.

Because then there came that last scene where Voight tried to comfort Woods in the hospital, only for Woods to tell him that what they’d done “wasn’t enough.” We’re gonna be optimistic and say he’s just angry in the moment and might calm down—but ending the episode on that note makes us think that Chicago PD might have Woods just blame Voight for his daughter’s death and come at him even harder.

Which would be totally short-sighted and turn him into even more of a one-note character, but it’s what feels likely.

2) Antonio Dawson has no fear

Was anyone else impressed by Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) tonight? After last week’s episode made him look a bit ridiculous, he was back in action this week. When Antonio and Brianna Woods (guest star Alexa Adderley) were used as human shields, he was not only completely chill, but he was talking to Brianna, trying to help her through it.

Most people wouldn’t be able to think about themselves, let alone help someone else. But Antonio isn’t most people, and neither are his colleagues in Intelligence. Chicago PD made the point for the billionth time on Wednesday that these cops go to places that aren’t easy, and that makes them a different kind of people. Or maybe it’s because they’re a different kind of people that they can do this job.

3) Has Halstead gotten his stuff together?

“Anthem” left us curious about the current state of Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). Granted, the episode was not the place to check on his mental health, but Halstead in general seemed like he was more on an even keel. Since we know therapy seems to be going well for him, does that mean we’ve seen the end of his PTSD arc? Hopefully not, because it’d be a shame if most of his growth happened off-screen, but it’s encouraging to think he’ll be okay.
