February flashback: Chicago Med season 2, episode 13
One year ago, Chicago Med gave us its version of a buddy movie in Chicago Med season 2, episode 13. Look back on the episode in our February Flashback.
With Chicago Med taking most of February off for the Winter Olympics, we’re rolling back the clock and revisiting the Chicago Med episodes that previously aired this month.
It was a year ago today that Med gave us “Theseus’ Ship”, the episode which provided both an entertaining buddy adventure and a wrenching family drama.
The best part of Chicago Med season 2, episode 13 was when Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and his boss Dr. Isidore Latham (Ato Essandoh) left the hospital to perform a surgery out of town.
It allowed us not only to see them outside of the hospital, but outside of their element. There was room for some bromantic banter between the pair, who were now without a doubt getting on the same page.

But we also saw Good Guy Connor rear his head again, as Latham found himself in the company of an, erm, questionable lady. When the woman was poised to take advantage of his boss, we saw a classic Connor Rhodes move—putting the situation right while giving Latham a different explanation so as to spare him any embarrassment.
A year later, we’re still hoping that NBC casts Colin Donnell and Ato Essandoh in a remake of Planes, Trains & Automobiles. If only because Colin Donnell would nail the best scene in the movie.

Meanwhile back at the hospital, “Theseus’ Ship” gave us Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) in a bind when she discovered her eight-year-old cancer patient wanted to stop treatment. She was sure it was a wrong decision, and so was April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), who called the Department of Children and Family Services.
But just as it did in Chicago Med season 1, the call to DCFS backfired on them when Natalie learned that stopping chemotherapy had actually helped her patient. By then, though, it was too late and his father was led off in handcuffs anyway. Yeowch.
This was also the Chicago Med where we learned about brain parasites. Not just any brain parasites either, but ones that will turn you into the Crazy Cat Lady from The Simpsons. A woman who’d become a cat hoarder was the psych case of the week, in which she hit on Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt). That was funny, but not as funny as the Latham and Rhodes road trip.
We really do need another episode like “Theseus’ Ship,” but until we get one, this is a perfect time to rewatch this episode.
