Did Chicago Med’s Natalie go too far or not far enough? Is Connor in trouble? Here’s what we learned from Chicago Med season 3, episode 10.

Tuesday’s Chicago Med gave us a shooting, a near-stabbing, and an ill-advised one-night stand. So what can we learn from all of this craziness?

Season 3, Episode 10 was called “Down By Law” and focused on Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), who had a bad week. Not only did she get a concussion after witnessing a drive-by shooting, she tangled with a Michigan reverend (guest star Jay O. Sanders) who came into the hospital with his underage bride.

If you missed any of this Chicago Med episode or just want a refresher on the events we’re discussing, you can catch up with our “Down By Law” recap.

Here are our Chicago Med season 3, episode 10 takeaways:

More from One Chicago Center

1) Natalie and Will have switched places

We’ve touched on this before, but “Down By Law” was the definitive example that Natalie has become more like Will (Nick Gehlfuss). And as for Will, well, he’s having to be a whole other person.

There’s always going to be at least one doctor in the hospital who’s the rulebreaker; that’s a fairly known archetype in this genre, and it creates good drama. It is also Natalie through and through, because she’s so committed to what she thinks is best for her patients. It can be frustrating and get her in trouble but it comes from a good place.

It used to be Will, but as the attending he doesn’t get the luxury of coloring outside the lines anymore. And it’s going to be really fun to see how that impacts their relationship, because we know Natalie does not like being reined in, and it’ll be worse when it’s her boyfriend doing it. Check out our interview with Nick Gehlfuss for more on Will and Natalie’s future.

2) Connor needs to take a breath

So Connor had a one-night stand, with a woman whose last name he didn’t even know, who then turned out to be married. Just reading that sentence makes us want to giggle. We’re big defenders of Connor Rhodes over here, because he tends to have his stuff together, but if you wanted proof that he doesn’t have it together now this episode was it. Emphatically.

We get that Chicago Med wants to show Connor having a downward spiral after losing Robin, but he’s starting to act stupid, and the writing isn’t doing him a favor in that respect. Having him get hit on by a lawyer who’s literally exchanged two sentences with him? And he agrees to it after what he just went through, because she tells him she’s not married? Did he forget that his last fling just lied to him, too?

We know he’s attractive, but that’s just laughable and he should know better, not to mention have some more self-respect.

Although watching him MacGyver some medicine was cool. We’ll give him that. Even when he’s acting like a bit of a bonehead, he’s still a heck of a surgeon.

3) Maggie deserves a break

We were never quite sold on the Maggie and Barry storyline, but still our hearts broke for Maggie (Marlyne Lockwood) this week when she found out about her ex-husband’s secret past and that he would face criminal charges for it. Poor Maggie works her butt off on this show, but she doesn’t seem to get the happiness that other characters do.

Maybe her sister needs to come back to give her a hug. Or something, but she deserves a good story this season, and not one that ends like this.
