Chicago PD season 5, episode 14 takeaways: Sisterhood
Was Chicago PD a little hard on Adam Ruzek? Does Kim Burgess need a hug? Here’s what we learned from Chicago PD season 5, episode 14.
Last night’s Chicago PD left much open to the audience’s opinion, so what can we learn from this week’s episode?
Season 5, Episode 14 was called “Sisterhood” and it was definitely focused on the women. Not only was Intelligence chasing a female murder suspect, but Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) was the detective driving the case and trying to call the shots. Some of those worked out better for her than others.

1) Ruzek needs another storyline
Maybe he’s just keeping his head down while he tries to get back on the team’s good side, but has anyone noticed that development for Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) has stalled a bit since the midseason break?
He had his mole storyline, and obviously Chicago PD will shift its focus to other characters, so Ruzek isn’t going to be front and center. But we’re not quite sure where he’s going either.
The mole thing hasn’t really been brought back up. We assume Denny Woods didn’t lock up his sister. The two of them having a one-night stand does not count as character development in the Burzek relationship. In fact, in “Sisterhood” poor Ruzek got snapped at by Burgess over pronouns.
There’s got to be something else he can do, especially with Burgess getting a lot of screen time, so wouldn’t it be natural to make use of Ruzek in some way given that those two characters’ve been written so closely together?

2) Burgess should call Halstead’s therapist
We don’t mean this in a bad way at all, but based on her behavior in “Sisterhood,” Burgess might want to make a call to Jay Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) shrink, because she needs to talk about all that’s going through her head.
Burgess has a perfectly understandable anger at her sister’s attackers getting off, especially since (as we learned here) Nicole is still struggling to recover. But she absolutely let that color her work in this episode, whether it was saying that the murderer deserved a deal because her victims were criminals, or having to be told to call in the suspicious car, or sniping at Ruzek for the team’s use of the male pronoun when no one could have known otherwise.
She’s hurt and she’s angry, and she’s not going to get any help from Voight, who brushed off her lapse at the end of the episode with his own moral justification. She may or may not open up to Ruzek, depending on if Chicago PD goes back to that relationship at all. So Burgess should talk to Jay’s therapist. Or maybe Atwater. We’re always up for more Burgess and Atwater.
3) Antonio knows everyone
It has to be a running joke in the One Chicago universe how Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) has some CI everywhere. We saw again in this episode how Antonio had the informant who set up the bust, and the show has made light of that earlier this season, with Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins)’s comments about how easily Antonio turns CI’s. But seriously, with all the different places that we know Antonio has worked and all the people he knows, he’s like our version of Kevin Bacon.
