How will Chicago PD pick up the pieces, or will there be more pieces? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 5, episode 17 preview.

Wednesday’s Chicago PD has the distinction of being the episode after the show’s 100th episode, which puts it in a very interesting place.

Last week’s “Profiles” was the milestone episode, but it didn’t exactly feel like a milestone. It was the second half of a huge and exciting crossover, yet that meant PD‘s achievement kind of felt like it got lost everything else that was happening.

So now that the focus is strictly back on Intelligence, what will happen next?

“Breaking Point” will swing the show back around to its season-long storyline of the team versus Denny Woods, as Mykelti Williamson returns in this episode.

This time it’s Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) that Woods is putting pressure on, giving him some kind of an ultimatum.

First we thought Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) was the snitch, then it actually was Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), and now Olinsky—is Woods just going to go through every member of the Intelligence Unit until someone gives up?

But Olinsky also seems like the last person who’d ever talk, so it’s worth watching to see how Chicago PD handles this plot point and where the show will go with it.

And then just what will “Breaking Point” do, story-wise? Will we get any reference to the fact that Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) was almost blown up the last time we saw her? Will anything this week be an additional nod toward the history or future of the show as a whole?

It’d be nice if we could connect the dots like that, so we’ll be interested to see if any such mentions make their way into the episode.

The case of the week involves the death of an Alderman, which could be interesting or could be a fairly straightforward idea. It’s too bad that Alderman Ray Price (Wendell Pierce) isn’t mentioned as appearing in this episode, because that could add a whole other layer to the story.

But will we get another story of “prominent city figure with some skeleton in their closet” like we’ve seen a few times before on this and other shows? Or is there a Chicago PD twist coming? We’ll find out tonight.
