Peter Stone has some tough competition in this week’s SVU. Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Law and Order SVU season 19, episode 16 preview.

Peter Stone has learned a lot so far in his Law & Order: SVU tenure, but tonight he’ll have to put that to the test.

Wednesday’s episode is called “Dare” and it features some wonderful guest stars who are going head to head with our newly installed Assistant District Attorney.

The plot of the episode concerns a surgeon who harvests a young woman’s organs without any kind of parental consent, wading into a grim area between medicine and murder.

Anyone remember the original Law & Order episode “Sonata for Solo Organ” from 1991? This is the SVU take on illegal organ harvesting, more than 20 years later.

The most intriguing part of the episode isn’t the premise, though, but the absolutely stellar cast who are bringing this uncomfortable story to life.

Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) will face his hardest competition yet, as Callie Thorne returns for another episode as defense attorney Nikki Staines. “Dare” is her fourth episode.

You’ll recognize Callie from playing Jon Seda‘s colleague and love interest in another NBC series, Homicide: Life on the Street. She also starred in the second season of NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura and was the lead of USA’s Necessary Roughness.

If you’ve seen any of these shows, you know that Callie Thorne does not mess around. Her characters always put up a fight, and she as an actress is always on her game.

She’s going to provide some excellent opposition for Philip Winchester, which in turn will be great for SVU fans, because we’ll get to see what happens when Peter is seriously challenged. How will he react, and what will he do now that he may not have done on Chicago Justice? This is one legal battle you don’t want to miss.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. Tonight’s episode also features Janel Moloney as the defendant of the week. Like Callie Thorne, Moloney is a familiar face to NBC viewers, having played the adorable Donna Moss on The West Wing. Yet tonight she’s going to be anything but adorable.

If you had the chance to see Moloney in her role on Showtime’s Brotherhood, you know that she can also play a darker character very well, and that looks like what we’ll be seeing in “Dare.” She’s going to be a tough cookie, which will in turn be interesting for Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), for Stone, and of course, for us watching at home.

This SVU season 19 installment has one of the best lineups we’ve seen all season, and that makes this episode one that should be outstanding. Hopefully, Peter Stone will still come away with the conviction, but this is honestly anyone’s game—and that’s what makes it compelling.
