Chicago Fire gets a new addition this week, so what will he bring? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Chicago Fire season 6, episode 16 preview.

Things are changing in this week’s Chicago Fire, but the question is whether those changes are good, bad or somewhere in between.

Thursday’s episode is called “The One That Matters Most,” and there are a few developments we can expect in it, with the most prominent being the arrival of another new firefighter at Firehouse 51.

Actor Damon Dayoub (Stitchers, NCIS) has been cast as the firefighter who’s temporarily filling in for the injured Otis (Yuri Sardarov). It’s been revealed that his character has personal history with Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund).

But how much will that actually come to matter? We know that Chicago Fire probably won’t pose any kind of serious threat to Dawsey, since that’s the show’s primary ship. There’ll likely be a few awkward moments, maybe some mild jealousy on somebody’s part (whose? who knows?) but it’d be crazy to mess up Dawson’s marriage.

The more intriguing factor is how the show will introduce yet another new firefighter. This guy is here temporarily, but the show has brought in new faces before (remember Jason Kannell?) and it’s kind of hit or miss.

Will Dayoub’s character have something to offer on his own merits, outside of the Dawson backstory?

Plus, why is Chief Grissom (returning guest star Gary Cole) out in the field? Is he actually going to help, or just be a hindrance, like any other Chief not named Boden has always seemed to become?

Will he finally tell someone to file their TPS reports?

The burning question, no pun intended, for Fire fans is what will happen with Otis. It doesn’t seem like his storyline is one that will be resolved right away, which is bad for him but could be great for the show because we haven’t had many lasting effects from the big cliffhangers this season.

Otis’s storyline is not only shining a welcome spotlight on Yuri Sardarov, but it’s also provided some great moments for Joe Minoso as well. The Cruz and Otis bromance is so often played for laughs, but this is exploring the whole other side of it. We’ll just be curious to see Otis’s actual prognosis, and how long Chicago Fire plans to keep him out for.

Last but not least is that “The One That Matters Most” will obviously include the fact that Stella and Severide are now officially a thing again, and this is the moment that many fans have been waiting for—not just if you ship it, but simply to get these two characters over a season and a half long hurdle and see what happens next.

There’ll be the reaction when everyone else finds out, of course. But we’ll want to see how these two seriously develop as a couple. We didn’t get to see that last season when their hookup was so brief. Will they actually be a good match for each other after all that anticipation? How will they move forward, both together and individually?

Now that the “will they or won’t they” is over, it’s time for the “what’s next,” and we’ll be curious to see if Stellaride gets the same momentum and focus that Severanna did last season. This episode could be big in the big picture of Chicago Fire season 6, but there’s only one way to find out.
