4. Their breakups were iffy at best

We’ve discussed this before, but Brettonio’s original breakup in Chicago PD season 4 never rang true. It felt like a minor disagreement became a major fight for the sake of having a major fight, and it never came back down. Realistically, they should have never broken up in the first place.

But the logic of what’s happened for them since hasn’t been that great either. Every single fan knew that when they said they’d just be hooking up once, it wasn’t going to be once. Brett should have known that too, so having her call time on their relationship again because she doesn’t want to stir up feelings for him again? If she honestly thought it could just be fun and/or sex between them, then she wasn’t giving herself or him enough credit.

Then Chicago Fire got the audience’s hopes up again when Brett changed her mind in the two-hour block and decided she did want a serious relationship with Antonio. Yet now he’s agreed to be set up on a blind date with some other woman? On one hand, Brett is partly to blame here given that she was the one who told Antonio she didn’t want anything serious. He’s within his rights to see someone else if he wants.

But if he has feelings for Brett to the extent that he was visibly hurt when she broke it off again, would he even want to go on a date with somebody? Especially when he just had sex with Brett again, so it’s not like those feelings were awhile ago. The ways Chicago Fire keeps Brettonio apart aren’t that convincing. If the reasons for them not to be together are awkward at best, that’s a sign that they ought to be together.
