Jesse Lee Soffer’s birthday: Why we love Chicago PD’s Jay Halstead
Chicago PD star Jesse Lee Soffer celebrates a birthday Monday, so One Chicago Center is looking at why we love him and his character Jay Halstead.
Today we’re saying happy birthday to Jesse Lee Soffer! The Chicago PD star has his special day on Monday, so we’re paying tribute to both Jesse and his character, Detective Jay Halstead.
Jay Halstead has been a rock for Chicago PD, as one of several characters who have been regulars for what’s now more than 100 episodes.
But not only that, Jay has proven to be stable when the Intelligence Unit needs him. Despite all the craziness that goes on inside and outside of the team, he’s always there to hold things together.
And the squad, not to mention the show, wouldn’t be the same without him.

That’s a credit to Jesse Lee Soffer, because sometimes the characters who are the most together can be the hardest to play. They don’t always have the biggest scenes or the most prominent stories, and so how do they hold the audience’s attention?
Jesse has made Jay Halstead a Chicago PD fan favorite by making him just a really awesome guy that we care about and want to see succeed each week.
Whether he’s in his own storyline or acting as the supporting character in someone else’s plot, he’s always someone that we can count on to give a good performance.

Things have gotten progressively harder for Jay Halstead of recent, with his random ex-wife coming back and his girlfriend leaving for New York when he was going to propose. But that has given Jesse Lee Soffer even more to sink his teeth into, and he’s been amazing this season.
Since starting off Chicago PD season 5 by accidentally shooting a young girl, Jay has had to deal with a lot heaped onto his shoulders both personally and professionally. We saw him go into a bit of a tailspin, but in typical Jay Halstead fashion, he climbed back and has now been here for his new partner Hailey Upton in her time of need.
Halstead may not be the biggest personality on PD, but he’s the loyal and reliable one who never lets anything stop him from being there. And like his character, Jesse Lee Soffer is always there to entertain One Chicago fans and make every episode worth watching. Happy birthday, Jesse, and thanks for the years of great work!
