Chicago Fire season 6, episode 20 preview: The Strongest Among Us
How will Chicago Fire welcome Otis back? Who else is in for a surprise? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Chicago Fire season 6, episode 20 preview.
This week’s Chicago Fire is full of surprises, so are they good surprises or bad surprises? Or both? Knowing this show, it’s probably both.
Thursday’s episode is called “The Strongest Among Us” and let’s start with the good news: Otis (Yuri Sardarov) appears to be back on full duty, according to the photos from the episode.
But just because he’s back doesn’t mean we should assume everything’s okay. No one said what Otis would be in for.
It’d be cruel if the show had him suffer some kind of injury in his return episode, but it would also be a bit strange if he just popped back up perfectly fine. This is a guy who could’ve been paralyzed and who just spent months in physical therapy.

Chicago Fire should hopefully play with that a bit, although since the show did largely skip over Mouch’s (Christian Stolte) near-death experience, it could go either way. Hey, maybe Mouch and Otis can talk about almost life-changing fire calls?
But Otis’s story isn’t necessarily over just because he’s back to firefighting, so keep an eye on that.

Other characters are in for surprises during this episode. Most notably Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) gets a shock when Bria (guest star Quinn Cooke), the wayward teenager she tried to help in several episodes earlier this season, turns up at the firehouse for the second time.
We don’t know why Bria has returned, but since she’s coming to Firehouse 51, it’s safe to guess that she needs something from Dawson. And what does that mean for Dawson?
Dawson’s willingness to help kids in need, and her related desire for a family, has been a topic of this season just like it was last season with Louie. We’re starting to wonder where it’s going as it just keeps tugging at her heartstrings (and ours). Can we just give this woman a break?
Then there’s what happens to Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso), which, we’ll let this clip speak for itself:
While we’re glad Cruz has seemed to move off his renewed crush on Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), we still worry about him. His love life has generally not gone well, and he’s been through the wringer himself, between Brett and what just happened to his best friend. Maybe Cruz needs a breather rather than jumping into another big life change?
But that’s just our opinion. We’ll see who handles their curveballs the best when Chicago Fire returns tonight, because everyone is getting something they didn’t expect.
