Will Chicago PD let Denny Woods take Alvin Olinsky down? Look forward to tonight’s episode with our Chicago PD season 5, episode 21 preview.

This week’s Chicago PD is the last episode before the season finale, and that means time is running out for Alvin Olinsky.

Tuesday’s episode is called “Allegiance” and based on the photos for this episode, it’s clear that Olinsky (Elias Koteas) is formally charged with Jason Bingham’s murder.

Of course, One Chicago fans know that Olinsky is innocent—he only helped hide the body, as it was Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) who killed Bingham after Bingham murdered his son.

But every string Voight has tried to pull, to keep Olinsky from taking the fall for him has failed and now Olinsky will sit behind bars at least for one episode.

The question is, how deep will Chicago PD dig the hole for them both to get out of?

Fans remember that just a few episodes ago, Voight told Olinsky that he would confess if it came down to it. However, Voight appears to be avoiding following through on that promise.

The photos for “Allegiance” also show the return of John Pankow as Voight’s old friend turned judge, last seen getting away with a crime of his own in “Monster.” It sure looks like Voight is asking him for a favor.

This is puzzling on a few levels. For one, calling in favors hasn’t worked for Voight so far, so why is he doing it again?

For two, he pretty harshly condemned the judge’s actions in “Monster” so it no doubt will be very awkward if he’s now expecting him to help. What incentive does the judge have to help someone who told him off last time? Unless it’s a sort of “you help me or I expose your past crime” story, at which point Voight’s still not in a great position—that’s blackmail.

Right about now, we’re wishing Peter Stone was still part of the One Chicago universe so he could help Olinsky the way he was able to help Kim Burgess. But he isn’t, and in fact Chicago PD has one big gun at the prosecutor’s table. Michael McGrady (Ray Donovan) returns in this episode as ASA James Osha; you can read our interview with him by clicking the link below.

“Allegiance” is playing right into Denny Woods’ (Mykelti Williamson) hands. And since things tend to get worse before they get better ahead of season finales, we’re not optimistic. The question is not if there’s trouble ahead in this episode—it’s how much. Because it doesn’t seem like there is any way out.
