Will Chicago PD really have Hank Voight confess? What will happen to Alvin Olinsky? Here are our Chicago PD season 5, episode 21 takeaways.
This week’s Chicago PD was not great for anyone, so is there anything that we can learn from what happened?
Last night’s episode was called “Allegiance” and saw Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) have a rough time behind bars now that he was officially charged with murder, while the rest of the team was left to handle a weapons bust that almost turned into a gang war.
If you missed any of this Chicago PD episode or just want a refresher on the events that we’re discussing, you can catch up with our “Allegiance” recap.

1) Olinsky needs a wake-up call
We feel terrible that Olinsky has gotten stabbed, and hopefully he’ll make it through. At the same time, we hope this experience brings him to his senses.
Olinsky’s an old-school cop, and this is his best friend he’s protecting, so it’s not that we don’t understand why he won’t turn on Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). But there’s a limit, which is something Voight himself has mentioned in “Breaking Point.”
Olinsky’s kept saying he’s going to get out of this so many times that you may as well put it on a loop. At what point does he realize that no matter how much he trusts Voight, the factual reality of the situation is not changing?
He’s done very little to help himself, and the one thing he did was plant drugs on an innocent man. Voight may be the reason all this is happening, but Olinsky isn’t going to come out of this season looking great, either. If he pulls through, maybe he needs to take a breath as well.

2) What will Voight do now?
The end of this episode implies that Voight is about to confess to Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson). And that’s what he promised Olinsky he would do, so is that his only option now?
It sure feels like it. Voight’s tried his usual ways of pulling strings and making threats, and as we’ve said numerous times here, they don’t work.
Plus, given his loyalty to Olinsky, he has to uphold the promise he made to his best friend especially when said friend’s life is hanging in the balance. If Voight goes back on that, it’s going to make it look like his word doesn’t mean much. There’s still a chance that Chicago PD finds some deus ex machina to get Voight off the hook, but for the sake of following through with everything it’s set up, he has to put himself on it first.
3) Will Antonio continue to speak up?
Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) pretty much sat on the sidelines in “Allegiance,” but he had one big moment when he pushed Voight to give him an answer and Voight literally pushed back. The question we have is, will that moment be the first of many?
Someone needs to challenge Voight, and one of our hopes when Antonio returned to the unit was that his experience from Chicago Justice would give him a different perspective, as well. Neither of those things have come to pass. But Antonio would be the perfect character to ask those hard questions; he has the experience to know better, he’s not intimidated by Voight, and he’s certainly earned the right. Let’s see if he keeps pressing in the season finale.
