National Nurses Day: 3 reasons why Chicago Med’s nurses are the best
1) They never give up on anyone
The best thing you could say about both Maggie Lockwood as well as April Sexton is that they do not give up. Not even when they probably should. Whether it’s patients, doctors or in their lives off the clock, these two never turn their back on anybody.
Both April and Maggie have people in their lives who have caused them grief. April has her brother Noah (Roland Buck III), who continually leans on her to better him, whether it’s helping him with his med school exams or asking her to get his chief resident to ease up on him. April put aside her own dreams of being a doctor to help Noah. She would be entitled to be a little resentful, or even just to ask him to stop asking her for help, but she’s always there for him no matter what.
Maggie’s ex-husband Barry (James Vincent Meredith) has likewise been problematic for her. Not only did their marriage end badly, he kept pestering her to give him a second chance, and then in this season she discovered Barry wasn’t even his real name! He’d been lying to her for years. Yet she still let him back into her life after the divorce, and she obviously still cared about him even once she knew about the lie.
And it’s not just those stories either. As we mentioned previously, the nurses of Chicago Med will go the extra mile for a patient, and they always support their colleagues. Maggie is the closest thing that Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) has for a shoulder to lean on in her struggles with the hospital board. No matter who’s in need, no matter how bad it gets, Maggie and April will be there—and we’re lucky to have them here.
