Chicago Med season 3 finale preview: The Tipping Point
How will Chicago Med’s season finale wrap up its storylines? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Chicago Med season 3, episode 20 preview.
Here we are: the last episode of Chicago Med season 3, while also happens to be the last episode of the entire 2017-2018 One Chicago season.
By virtue of starting its season later than Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, Chicago Med is also ending its season later, which means what happens Tuesday is the note the whole season is ending on. It could be great, or could be just as crazy as the Fire and PD finales.
So what should fans be watching for?
The ‘A’ story in “The Tipping Point” is that the hospital performs that surgery to separate a pair of conjoined twins, that audiences have watched the lead-up to over the last several episodes.

Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) may have removed himself from the surgical team last week, but it doesn’t take a surgeon to realize that’s not going to last. The show isn’t going to have Connor sitting in the doctors’ lounge playing Candy Crush all episode.
So the question is when and how he’ll get involved in the surgery again? And what will that do to Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling)?
Ava is quite happy to be the star pupil on this case and get the attention that comes with it, and surely she won’t look kindly on Connor coming in and once again taking some of the spotlight from her.
At the same time, Chicago Med established in “The Parent Trap” that these two still have romantic feelings for each other, even though they’re terrible at showing them. And nothing says “I love you” like feeling you’ve been upstaged by your would-be love interest, right?
Either these two will finally learn to work together as a team and maybe that opens the door for them to have a real relationship outside of the hospital, or they’ll end up fighting again and that will kill the love. And hopefully not a baby while we’re at it.
The other big issue Chicago Med needs to resolve is the continued nuisance that is Reese’s father Robert Haywood (recurring guest star Michel Gill). Last week’s episode took a Chicago PD-style turn in suggesting that Robert could be a serial killer! Aside from that being a very un-Med like plot to tell, that just adds to the headache he’s causing for Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt).
Charles is now hell bent on proving that Robert is a terrible person, for no other reason than he is determined to protect Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo), who continues to be drawn back into her father’s orbit. Setting aside how we wish Reese would wise up already, Charles is not giving this up and could that get him in trouble professionally, regardless of whether he’s right or not?
This storyline is going to be resolved by the end of the hour, but however it ends could also have repercussions in Chicago Med season 4. If Charles does something that lands him in trouble or if he alienates Reese, that could be a tough place to start next season. At least this season finale won’t end with him being shot again—hopefully. If Robert really is a murderer, who knows?
