Law and Order SVU season 19, episode 22 preview: Mama
Can Peter Stone help a victim who can’t remember her attack? Look ahead to tonight’s episode with our Law and Order SVU season 19, episode 22 preview.
This week’s episode of Law and Order SVU presents a major legal problem for Peter Stone in prosecuting his case—the victim has no memory of the crime.
Thursday’s episode is called “Mama” and involves a rape allegation complicated by the fact that the woman (guest star Fionnula Flanagan) has Alzheimer’s disease.
As has been brought up several times over 19 seasons of SVU, there’s a big difference between what you’re sure of and what you can legally prove in court. So the fact that the woman’s memory isn’t entirely there could be a huge handicap for Stone (Philip Winchester).
After all, do you remember just a few episodes ago in “Service” when Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) told Stone how important a victim’s identification can be?

But if there’s anybody who can build a case against tough odds, it’s Olivia Benson. With her investigative prowess and her ability to connect with victims, she’s the best person to be investigating this rape case.
Hopefully, Benson and Stone will be able to work together (along with the rest of the SVU team) to create something out of seemingly nothing. They both have a knack for finding justice where they shouldn’t be able to, which is what makes them such an interesting partnership.

The other part of “Mama” that ought to make it a great SVU season 19 installment is how it’s packed with wonderful guest stars.
Fionnula Flanagan was phenomenal when she played Rose Caffee in Showtime‘s Brotherhood. And she’s joined by three other big names—Anne Archer, Hal Linden and Joe Piscopo. That’s a real murderers’ row of acting talent, and we can’t wait to see what Hargitay, Winchester and company do when they get to play off of them.
The combination of a legally difficult case plus a handful of memorable characters has us excited for tonight’s Law and Order SVU season 19 case. Check out the promo below, and the full episode tonight:
