Tina Fey poked fun at the One Chicago franchise when she hosted NBC’s Saturday Night Live this weekend; watch the One Chicago parody here.

The size of the One Chicago franchise has pretty much always been a source of humor, with everyone from TV critics to One Chicago fans joking about how many spin-offs there will be. This weekend, even NBC got in on the joke.

NBC’s late-night sketch show Saturday Night Live featured a One Chicago parody during its May 19 season finale, poking fun at the network’s recent decision to stack all three Chicago shows on Wednesday nights.

In a sketch entitled “New Dick Wolf Show,” host Tina Fey and Saturday Night Live cast members unveiled a new series called Chicago Improv.

It’s not only amusing as a self-deprecating parody of NBC’s own network choices, but also because Chicago is known for its improvisational comedy; it’s the home of the famous Second City comedy troupe, whose alumni include Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Jane Lynch.

Maybe the joke doesn’t land quite so well since we’ve already seen One Chicago expand to four shows and then contract again (rest in peace, Chicago Justice), but it’s still pretty entertaining and good on NBC and Saturday Night Live for being willing to gently poke fun at one of the network’s biggest properties.

It’s not even the first zinger directed at the franchise in the last week—last Monday, while on stage at NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation, Seth Meyers also had a Chicago-related joke.

“NBC, as you all know, stands for Nothing But Chicago,” he told attendees. “We’ve got Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med—everything but Chicago accents. That would be going too far.”
