Chicago Fire alum Brittany Curran is celebrating her birthday on Saturday. Where is she after playing Kelly Severide’s half-sister Katie Nolan?

Today we’re wishing a happy birthday to Chicago Fire actress Brittany Curran, whom you might recall for her recurring role as Katie Nolan—Kelly Severide’s surprise half-sibling!

Curran appeared in Chicago Fire season 2 for eight of the season’s 22 episodes, playing the sister that Severide (Taylor Kinney) didn’t know he had.

Severide originally thought she was his dad Benny’s (Treat Williams) latest fling until he found out that Katie was his half-sister.

Katie and Severide connected, and she became an extended part of the Firehouse 51 family, even striking up a romance with Otis (Yuri Sardarov). But her time in Chicago came to a troubling end as Katie was abducted, rescued and understandably left town after her ordeal.

She hasn’t been seen since, but her character is still talked about, especially since Kelly Severide’s family continues to be a huge part of his life.

Chicago Fire fans wouldn’t mind an update on Katie, and given that Benny continues to pop up in his son’s life—most recently while trying to rekindle things with Severide’s mother Jennifer (Kim Delaney)—we keep hoping we’ll get a reference to how she’s doing now.

And although Otis has moved on with his current girlfriend Lily (recurring guest star Ariane Rinehart), one thinks he’d still be glad to see Katie and know she’s hopefully doing well in her culinary career!

But while Chicago Fire doesn’t seem to have any immediate plans to bring back her character, we can give you an update on where Brittany Curran has been since she left One Chicago.

The year that she wrapped her run on Fire, she shot a part as Sophie Fletcher in the 2014 movie Dear White People (which was the basis for the Netflix series of the same name). She’s worked mostly in films over the last four years.

Yet last year she began another recurring role on one of NBC‘s sister networks—playing Fen on SyFy‘s original series The Magicians! You may not even recognize her in the photo below, where she’s pictured alongside Chicago PD alum Stella Maeve:

Brittany Curran was promoted to series regular for The Magicians season 3, which finished up in April. The show was renewed for a fourth season by SyFy, so presumably we’ll get to see more of her on our small screens when it returns in 2019!

She’s doing very well for herself post-Chicago Fire and certainly playing an incredibly different role than we remember her for. Hopefully one of these days, though, Brittany Curran will return for one more guest spot to tell us how Katie is doing now—and perhaps check in on Severide and meet his new girlfriend Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo)! After how Stella reacted to meeting Severide’s mom, we’d love to see her meet his sister.
