Reese and Noah, Chicago Med

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: UNKNOWN

Status update: Chicago Med season 2 made very clear that Dr. Noah Sexton (Roland Buck III) had a puppy dog-esque crush on Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo), and the way that the season ended made it seem like they were going to get together. And then…well, there was no and then.

The show seemed to have completely forgotten it set this up, as Reese’s storylines in Chicago Med season 3 had nothing to do with her romantic life whatsoever. First, there was her case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder stemming from the shooting of her mentor Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), which caused her to pepper spray a patient and get suspended. Then in the second half of the season, we met Reese’s dad (Michel Gill) and had to wonder whether or not he was a murderer.

With all that going on, it’s no surprise Reese wouldn’t have the time or inclination to worry about a boyfriend, but it’s still frustrating to have the show do nothing with a plot point that it so clearly had set up. Why bother if there wasn’t going to be any payoff? It just makes you feel bad for her ex-boyfriend Joey (Peter Mark Kendall), who somehow broke up with or got dumped by her off-screen last season to make room for this ship that still doesn’t exist.

Of course, given how the season ended with Reese’s father looking to be either dead or close to it, and Charles standing over the body, maybe Reese will need Noah to confide in because her head might be about to explode.
