One Chicago relationship health check: Which couples still exist?

Connor and Robin, Chicago Med

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: OVER

Status update: Chicago Med season 3 may have started with Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and Dr. Robin Charles (Mekia Cox) all smiles, but in reality fans already knew that their relationship was doomed by the way the previous season ended.

Producers played it coy at first, but it was fairly obvious that they’d lost interest in Connor and Robin’s pairing by how they’d already introduced another character flirting with him in the season 2 finale. The sentiment only mounted during Robin’s appearances in season 3, when the couple didn’t seem to have many happy moments; instead, she was only complicating Connor’s life, like the time she started a fire that required the evacuation of his entire apartment building.

Things came to a head when Robin wrote Connor a break-up note and left Chicago—and Mekia Cox left Chicago Med, having become a series regular in the final season of ABC‘s Once Upon A Time.

This one’s a real shame, because the show had fought hard to win us over to this pairing in the first place, and it became such a real and palpable storyline with Robin’s mental health issues and how they affected Connor given his history. There was a meaningful story being told with them, and it didn’t deserve to end so quickly. Especially not for a plotline where the show was basically telling us what to feel.
