The Good Cop, featuring Chicago Justice’s Monica Barbaro, now has a premiere date and a teaser for Netflix’s upcoming original series.

One Chicago fans now know when Monica Barbaro‘s new Netflix show is premiering, as the streaming service announced a release date for The Good Cop on Sunday night to coincide with Josh Groban’s hosting of the 2018 Tony Awards.

The series will launch on Friday, Sept. 21 with ten episodes in its first season.

The Good Cop is Monica Barbaro’s first series regular role since Chicago Justice, where she was a standout as Assistant State’s Attorney Anna Valdez.

In the Netflix comedy-drama, she portrays a New York detective who is partnered with Groban’s character—making her the second Justice alum to shift from Chicago to New York, following her former colleague Philip Winchester who moved to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The partnership between Monica’s and Groban’s characters has a bit of a third wheel, as his father (portrayed by TV veteran Tony Danza) offers his own advice from years as a not exactly honorable NYPD cop.

Not only that, but Danza’s character lives with his son, so there will really be no getting away from him either on or off the job. You can see where this is rife for comedy!

In addition to confirming the show’s premiere date, Netflix also dropped a quick teaser trailer for The Good Cop Sunday evening. Monica Barbaro doesn’t appear in it, but it definitely encapsulates the Odd Couple-esque vibe that the show is going for. Watch it by playing the video below:

Monica Barbaro didn’t have many opportunities to show off her funny side while playing Anna Valdez on Chicago Justice, because what Anna was working on was no laughing matter. But she’s quite hilarious in real life, and it sounds like The Good Cop will enable her to crack us up.

Not to mention that the rest of the cast is pretty impressive, too; Danza is a comedy legend, and anyone who’s seen Josh Groban live (including at the Tony Awards) knows how sharp as well as often self-deprecating his sense of humor can be.

Perhaps the most amusing part, though, is that The Good Cop‘s premiere date being on Sept. 21 means that it will be starting around the same time the One Chicago franchise returns. So it will almost be like having Chicago Justice back, or at least one of its stars.
