Chicago Fire’s Kenny Johnson stars in CBS’s SWAT, which now has an official season 2 premiere date. Find out when the SWAT season premiere will air.

Former Chicago Fire recurring guest star Kenny Johnson will be back on our TV screens this fall, now that CBS has nailed down a premiere date for his current show SWAT.

CBS confirmed that SWAT season 2 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 27 in the show’s same 10 p.m. time slot from last season—where it ironically was a direct rival to Chicago Fire.

But with Chicago Fire moving to Wednesdays as part of NBC‘s new fall schedule, there won’t be any conflict for One Chicago fans who still fondly remember Kenny Johnson’s guest spot during the second and third seasons.

He portrayed Tommy Welch, who briefly joined the team at Firehouse 51. Welch was aligned with Chief Pat Pridgen (fellow guest star Matthew Del Negro) until he came to his senses, which led to Pridgen turning on Welch.

Neither character has been seen on Fire since, and it doesn’t seem likely either will turn up again.

Things are going much better for Kenny Johnson’s character on SWAT. He portrays Officer Dominique Luca, part of the elite team led by Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Shemar Moore).

Luca dealt with a variety of intriguing cases over the first season, from working with troubled kids to his best effort at keeping a high-profile hockey player out of trouble.

Though he’s traded his firefighting career for one with a police badge, Kenny Johnson is still turning in solid performances as part of the SWAT cast.

He’s one of the strongest actors on the show, which has been holding its own on Thursday nights—its ratings were either in the ballpark of, or sometimes even better than, Chicago Fire last season.

The fact that it’s staying in the same time slot means that Fire fans who haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, will be able to do so next season. And the season premiere date has it starting right after the Fire season 7 premiere!

So if you’re looking for something to watch Thursdays since Firehouse 51 won’t be there this fall, then consider giving Kenny Johnson’s current project a look. Check out a clip below that features Kenny Johnson:
