5. Promotion to Intelligence

More from One Chicago Center

One thing that has constantly been noticed about Burgess is her determination to not only bring down criminals, but to get what she wants. Throughout her first four years on the show, Burgess worked as hard as she could to gain a place on the Intelligence unit alongside ex-partner Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins).

We have seen Burgess attacked, shot, take down perp after perp and even help the Intelligence Unit on many different occasions, but her loyalty and her passion were ignored. Everything she did from Season 1 onwards showed us just how passionate she was for the job she wanted so badly. Come Season 4, it looked as though Burgess had had enough of patrolling, especially with the number of partners she went through during that time. However, hope looked to be on the horizon.

After so many years, Burgess finally got her wish when in Season 4, Episode 8, Antonio (Jon Seda) announced that he was leaving Intelligence and accepting an offer made by Peter Stone (Philip Winchester). This opened a spot on Intelligence and Voight, being someone who recognizes true talent, asked Burgess to take up the role and replace Antonio. Burgess didn’t even have to think before accepting the offer and becoming a permanent member of the Intelligence Unit, a dream she had wanted for a very long time.

Burgess worked her ass off in order to get the promotion she had wanted for such a long time. Her determination never once wavered and time and time again she proved that she was worthy of a spot on one of the best Units in Chicago. Working her badge off and finally getting what she had worked so hard to get is definitely one of Burgess’ best moments and it’s also a good message for the fans as well.
