Chicago PD’s 5 best Kim Burgess moments
4. Friendship with Platt
Burgess is known for getting on with pretty much everyone, even her partners, who aren’t always the best patrol officers out there. She always tries to see the best in people (unless they committed a provable crime). Perhaps one of the strangest friendships she has gained over her years on the show is that of Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt (Amy Morton).
Since we were first introduced to Burgess, it was clear that she and Platt weren’t exactly best friends, in fact, Platt always appeared to look down on Burgess and underappreciated her. The two were constantly having little arguments when handing over assignments. There seemed to be no end to their disagreements, but deep down, the two of them got on better than we would have thought.
In Season 2, Burgess was shot while investigating a house call with partner at the time, Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty). Whilst Roman was arguing with his ex-partner and girlfriend, Burgess approached the house and left them to it but when she rang the doorbell, a shot rang out and Burgess went down.
During the next episode, it was revealed that the house had been rigged with a series of traps and Burgess probably wasn’t the intended target of the shooting. Nonetheless, our favorite patrol officers were injured and recovering in the hospital. This was when we truly saw the friendship between the pair of them. Platt was by Burgess’ side during her time in the hospital. Platt even partnered up with Roman while she recovered.
Since Platt was by her side during her recovery, two seasons later, Burgess returned the favor. When Platt was attacked outside her father’s house, she was admitted to hospital with a head injury and Burgess was with her during her recovery. The two of them showed how strong their friendship really was when they sat by each other’s side during the most trying moments of their careers. The two of them show us that even those who have little disagreements can stand by each other during their hour of need.
It is less of a moment and more of a series of moments, but Burgess and Platt’s friendship deserves a place on our list.
