Chicago PD alum Brian Geraghty stars in TNT’s The Alienist, which has its series premiere Monday with Geraghty playing a very different kind of cop.

One Chicago fans who’ve missed Brian Geraghty on Chicago PD will want to tune into his new TV series tonight.

Geraghty played Sean Roman, the partner and love interest of Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), during Chicago PD season 2 and season 3.

After being shot in the episode “Justice,” Roman recovered and moved from Chicago to San Diego, once Geraghty decided to leave Chicago PD and pursue other opportunities.

That next opportunity is TNT‘s new series The Alienist, based on the book by Caleb Carr and set in New York City, circa 1896.

Brian Geraghty is playing another police officer, but one completely different from Sean Roman. He’s a series regular as New York City police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt—the man who would become President of the United States.

TNT describes his version of Roosevelt as “Brilliant, driven, ambitious but principled, he’s a crusading reformer, determined to clear up entrenched corruption in the police force he now leads.

“Having suffered profound tragedy with the loss of his first wife and mother on the same day, he is deeply appreciative of the many blessings in his life, including a lovely second wife and six beautiful children.

“Roosevelt is a tough taskmaster, a clever politician, a vibrant man, always in perpetual motion. He is outraged that the city’s immigrant children are being murdered and is determined to find the perpetrator.”

In The Alienist season 1, Roosevelt and his assistant (played by Dakota Fanning) join up with the titular alienist (Daniel Bruhl) and a newspaperman named John Moore (Luke Evans from Beauty and the Beast) to track down a serial killer.

TNT aired the first episode as a “sneak peek” after Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, but the show formally premieres tonight and will air Mondays at 9 p.m. Watch a clip below, and catch Brian Geraghty in The Alienist this evening:
